sweet and sour fish : vietnamese style

Sweet & Sour Fish : Vietnamese Style

I have got a great Vietnamese cookbook called "Into the Vietnamese Kitchen" and I am loving it too bits. It's so inspiring.

If you get any chances to visit Vietnam, I highly recommend you to spend some time in "Nha Trang", especially at the "Evason Nha Trang - Ana Mandara Resort". You will love the time, food and everything.

Anyway, I am very much inspired by their food, hence the "Sweet and Sour Fish" Vietnamese version.
It's absolutely delicious. Very easy & simple to prepare and to cook.

Find below my recipe

4 Slices of Fish Fillet (Spanish Mackerel, Red Snapper or White Seabass, anything)
2 of Plump Medium Tomatoes, Sliced
1 of Medium Onion, Sliced
½ Cup of Cooking Oil (Olive Oil is optional)
1 Tablespoon of Sea Salt
1 Tablespoon of Ground Black Pepper
1 Teaspoon of Sugar

Spring Onion, cut
Long Leaf Cilantro, cut

Preparation

• put a wok / large cooking pan over medium to high heat
• fry the fish fillet till cooked or becoming golden yellow
• remove the fish, keep aside

• remove the excess oil from the pan
• add sliced onion, fry till soft
• add sliced tomatoes, fry till soft
• add sugar, salt and half of ground black pepper
• place the fried fish in the serving plate
• pour the sauce from the pan over the fish
• sprinkle the rest of ground black pepper

xuan mai restaurant

Beef Pho @ Xuan Mai Vietnamese Restaurant

I was at Sukhumvit 13 today. I stopped at the Xuan Mai for lunch. As everybody knows that I am very fond of Noodles.. and yes, I really adore "Pho". So, I ordered Beef Pho.

The authentic "Pho" at Xaun Mai comes in a reasonable big bolw with your choice of Beef or Chicken. Its said in the menu that its southern Vietnamese Pho style. One portion costs B120 - not expensive at all.

Oh well... if you happen to be in Sukhumvit 13 and happen to fancy Vietnamese food. Then give "Xuan Mai" a try. Who knows... it might become one of your favourite Restaurants!

pork with lime sauce : vietnamese style

Pork with Lime Sauce Vietnamese Style.

Here is my first go attempting to cook Vietnamese food and the outcome was quite satisfied.

Everybody knows that lately I am being obsessed with Healthy Cuisine. I trend to go for anything that has herbs to do with it, especially with Fresh Herbs. Vietnamese Food is categorised as "healthy food" as they are loads of fresh herbs and fresh greens in their food : basil, mint, thai parsley, etc.,

As its my first time, so I picked a very easy dish to start with.
Find below my debut of Cooking Vietnamese Food.

2 Cups of pork, cut into strips
2-3 Tablespoons of Tomato sauce/ Tomato puree
2-3 Tablespoons of Chillie sauce (Sri-Racha Chillies Sauce)
2 Tablespoons of Fish sauce
1/4 Cup of Lime juice
1-2 Teaspoons of Sugar

Roasted White Sesame
Fresh Mint, Basil & Thai Parsley
Lime Wedges

Preparation

* Put everything into a zip-log bag and keep in the fridge for 2 hours or over a night

* heat the cooking pan (without oil)
* add the marinated pork, keep stirring to cook the pork through
* remove into a serving plate
* sprinkle with roasted white sesame
* garnish with fresh herbs : Basil, Mint, Thai Parsley & a few of lime wedges
* serve with streamed whole-grain rice.

Actually, I have already tried some of them...

Le Dalat Indochine is a fine dining restaurant - kind of (very) expensive. But the food is extremely good. The Restaurant itself is exotically very well decorated. Good for taking your date there. ;)
Rate : *****

Pho @ Foodloft- Central Chilom - Pho is Good enough and not expensive at all and the concept of Fooloft itself is relaxing & casual. Everyone can go enjoy the food and be at ease there.
Rate : ***

Ngon Lam @ Thonglor - Their food is good enough but not that impressive. To be fair to them, if you were a noodle-lover, then you would be happy enough with their Pho.. though it tastes more a bit like Thai noodles.
Rate : ***

Thang Long @ Lang Suan - Food is good enough for what you have paid for. Pho is good. The Restaurant is well decorated.
The service that needs to be improved!!

vietnamese food @ ngon-lam

i personally, besides dessert, dont like much of sweet food, especially vietnamese food which seems to be very mild and sweet. i am very fond of their "pho"

but this vietnamese restaurant has its way of cooking their food to match my taste.
vietnamese food is very well known as healthy food, less fat and loads of veggies.
its just right for someone whos on diet or health-conscious.
